Congratulations to Mr. Gehrke's 3rd grade class for taking home the blue ribbon at Science Fair this year. Our project was entitled, "May the Forces Be With You!" We learned about gravity, friction, push, pull, and magnetism. We even built a Kinex roller coaster! Thanks for bringing that in for us, Jermaine!! I am so proud of all that we have learned. If there are any 3rd graders from Mr. Gehrke's class that would like to respond to this post and tell the people what you've learned, that would be super!!
I decided to add a picture of one of our display boards being modeled by the one and only, Odessah!! This is only one of two presentation boards. The other one was taken by Joseff, who took the pictures off and decided to have other uses for it.

Hoyan, Bonne Anne, Happy New Year! However you choose to say it, 2009 is finally here!! It is hard to believe that the new year is here and we are ready to make resolutions and try to keep them. As we enter this new year, what do you hope to do, accomplish, or change in your life? Respond to this blog and share how you will make 2009 the best year yet! Will you exercise, eat less junk food, get your homework done everyday, watch less t.v.? Whatever you choose to do, we would love to hear it!!
With this new year brings history to our country with Barack Obama taking the presidency of the United States and the power of change coming our way. Just keep in mind, "Yes, we can!" Have a safe and prosperous 2009 and again, Hoyan!
If you were unable to stay up late enough on New Year's Eve, here is the ball drop from Times Square in New York. My friends Bill and Hillary Clinton were there to bring the ball down with everyone else! Way to go, soon to be Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton!!!

Can you believe that we had our first winter snow storm of the year?? Snow storm Andrew did dump a lot of snow on Northeast Wisconsin and the surrounding areas. As a reminder with the new snow, take the following safety tips with you:
1. Snowballs are fun to make but they are a big no no on the playground while in school. If you want to make a snowball, keep rolling it until it is snowman size and unable to be thrown.
2. Always dress warm when you go outside. The Wisconsin winds can be pretty cold.
3. If you are riding in a car, always remind the driver to slow down, drive carefully, and watch for black ice. It can sneak up on you without warning.
4. If you are playing in the snow, make sure to let your parents know. Especially when building a snow fort. They can collapse and become dangerous.
5. Play safe, play safe, and play safe!!!
Have a wonderful winter experience!

Please take the 2-3 minutes to write a message.
This Marine's mother thanks you!
Linda
Our local radio station is giving a big thank you to all of our troops, and their goal is for 1 million messages before Thanksgiving. What they really want to happen is, word gets out to our troops around the globe, and whenever they feel down for the holidays they just go on Q100's website and a new message will appear every 30 seconds for a whole year until next thanksgiving! All you have to do is write a sentence of thanks to our troops before this Thanksgiving Day. Be apart of something amazing.
Please post this to facebook, blog it in myspace, or maybe even e-mail, anything to get the word out.

It is that time of the year when we begin to podcast. Our first podcast is complete and you can find it on our class website at www.gehrkeclass.com/podcasts.html. Be sure to check them out throughout the year. We have a lot of fun making them and they are helping us to become better writers. Mr. Gehrke also has a lot of fun adding the music and special effects. We are currently working on podcast #2. Make sure to check back in early November for it. I am sure it will be another great masterpiece.

Hey there, Chickadees!!
I just wanted to remind you that your monthly book reports will be due on the last Monday of every month. Your very first book report of your third grade year will be due on Monday, October 27. Remember it must be a chapter book and you must show your choice to Mr. G. as most of you already have done. When you are done reading, make sure to fill out the book report form.
Next month, you will get to choose what kind of book report you want to do using the book report task cards that are hanging in the back of the classroom.
Enjoy your book and happy reading!!
I am almost done reading my book which is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This is my second time reading it, but it is so good!!
