Can you believe that we had our first winter snow storm of the year?? Snow storm Andrew did dump a lot of snow on Northeast Wisconsin and the surrounding areas. As a reminder with the new snow, take the following safety tips with you:
1. Snowballs are fun to make but they are a big no no on the playground while in school. If you want to make a snowball, keep rolling it until it is snowman size and unable to be thrown.
2. Always dress warm when you go outside. The Wisconsin winds can be pretty cold.
3. If you are riding in a car, always remind the driver to slow down, drive carefully, and watch for black ice. It can sneak up on you without warning.
4. If you are playing in the snow, make sure to let your parents know. Especially when building a snow fort. They can collapse and become dangerous.
5. Play safe, play safe, and play safe!!!
Have a wonderful winter experience!

Please take the 2-3 minutes to write a message.
This Marine's mother thanks you!
Linda
Our local radio station is giving a big thank you to all of our troops, and their goal is for 1 million messages before Thanksgiving. What they really want to happen is, word gets out to our troops around the globe, and whenever they feel down for the holidays they just go on Q100's website and a new message will appear every 30 seconds for a whole year until next thanksgiving! All you have to do is write a sentence of thanks to our troops before this Thanksgiving Day. Be apart of something amazing.
Please post this to facebook, blog it in myspace, or maybe even e-mail, anything to get the word out.

It is that time of the year when we begin to podcast. Our first podcast is complete and you can find it on our class website at www.gehrkeclass.com/podcasts.html. Be sure to check them out throughout the year. We have a lot of fun making them and they are helping us to become better writers. Mr. Gehrke also has a lot of fun adding the music and special effects. We are currently working on podcast #2. Make sure to check back in early November for it. I am sure it will be another great masterpiece.

Hey there, Chickadees!!
I just wanted to remind you that your monthly book reports will be due on the last Monday of every month. Your very first book report of your third grade year will be due on Monday, October 27. Remember it must be a chapter book and you must show your choice to Mr. G. as most of you already have done. When you are done reading, make sure to fill out the book report form.
Next month, you will get to choose what kind of book report you want to do using the book report task cards that are hanging in the back of the classroom.
Enjoy your book and happy reading!!
I am almost done reading my book which is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This is my second time reading it, but it is so good!!

As you know, we are working on the Bully Proofing Our School program through the Creating Caring Communities and the Health and Safety Department of the Oneida Nation.
We just finished our bullying survey this week. I would like you to respond to this post and tell me what it felt like to be bullied if you have ever been bullied. Or if you were the bully, tell me why you chose to show bullying behavior.
Let's work together to make our school a safe and bully free zone!

Ok, third graders!! Being that the year is still new and we are still learning routines, policies, and procedures, tell me what you like so far about our class. What would you like to do this year or what do you hope to get to do this year? We will continue to use the Activexpressions with the Promethean board and we will also continue our fun exercise/stretch breaks during the day.
Click on the word comment below to give me your feedback. I look forward to hearing from you soon!!
Mr. Gehrke
The year has begun and we are on our way to a great third grade year. I just want to remind you of a few things to make this year even better. Here is what we need to do:
1) always complete your homework on time
2) write your homework in your agenda everyday
3) complete your weekly reading log
4) have your reading log and agenda signed daily
5) come to school with a positive attitude so that everyone can learn
6) be happy, this is going to be a great school year!
Fianlly, I would like to see everyone show responsibility this year in everything that you do this year in our classroom and throughout the school. It may be hard but we can do it.

We have put in our first two days of the school year. That means we only have 178 days to go before we become 4th graders!!!
It is nice to see familiar faces and even a new face in room N114. I would like to welcome Angeequay to our class and to our school. I am sure that she will like being at the Turtle and with our classroom.
We have 16 students this year and they have been wonderful. They have responded well to the new policies and procedures, along with the Power Teaching method that we are using. By following these policies and procedures early, we will have a great year with limited interruptions and issues to deal with.
We also have a new Promethean +2 board in our room and it is wonderful!! We are trying to still get used to it after using a SMARTBoard for a few years. We have to remember that the board only works with an ACTIVpen and we can't use or fingers like we could with the SMARTBoard. I know that we will benefit from the use of this amazing technology.
I look forward to adding more to our blogs. I will add pictures as I normally do. I didn't have my camera today for the tobacco burning so I can't place a picture on here for that. Mr. Randy Cornelius did a great job explaining the tobacco burning tradition and also leading us in the Oneida language as he gave thanks and asked the Creator for a good year and a good mind and thoughts for everyone at school. Yaw^ko, Mr. Cornelius for your leadership and wisdom in our yearly tobacco burning!
Until next time!
Mr. Gehrke and Crew

The official trailer for the new movie, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, has been released. It is a very dark movie and I would suggest that parents go and see it themselves before allowing students to see it. As you know, I do not show the movies in school but we do get a clip from time to time if it can be tied into a lesson somehow. I have included a link to see this great trailer. Again, it is dark, so watch it before allowing your child to see it. http://harrypotter.com/
As the school year has come to a close, the warmer weather is here and so is summer. Have a great time in the sun and with family. Remember to stay safe, have fun, relax, keep reading, and prepare yourself for another great school year.
For those of you returning to the Turtle next year, I look forward to seeing you in the clan area and in the halls again. For those of you starting a new adventure in another school, I wish you all of the best in your new journey. Have a great time with new friends, teachers, and a new school.
Again, remain safe, have fun, and relax!!
